Find Tracks to Remix

The situation: You want to find tracks on FreeMix that you can remix, sample, or build on.

  1. Browse the catalog. Head to the Browse page and look for tracks with remix-friendly licenses. The license badge on each track card tells you what’s allowed at a glance: FM:Open (anything goes), FM:Remix (remix freely), FM:NC (non-commercial remixes only).

  2. Filter by genre. Use the genre sidebar to narrow down to music in your style.

  3. Look for tracks with stems. Tracks that include stems are much easier to remix — you get the individual parts to work with. The track detail page shows stems if they’re available, each with its own waveform and playback.

  4. Check the license carefully. Before downloading, read the full license on the track detail page. Note any modifiers:

    • Credit — You’ll need to credit the original artist
    • Royalty — The original artist gets a percentage of commercial sales
    • ShareAlike — Your remix must also carry a FreeMix license
    • NoAI — Don’t use it for AI training
  5. Download and create. Download the track and/or stems. Create your remix, mashup, or edit.

  6. Upload your derivative. When you’re ready, upload your remix and link it to the source track. Describe the relationship and what elements you used. This builds the remix tree and gives proper attribution.
