Troubleshooting
Upload Issues
Section titled “Upload Issues”My upload is stuck or failed
Section titled “My upload is stuck or failed”Large files can take time, especially over slower connections. If an upload fails, check your connection and try again — FreeMix automatically retries failed chunks. If individual stems fail, you can retry them individually using the retry button.
If problems persist, try a different format (FLAC is generally more reliable than WAV for large files since it’s already compressed) or check the file requirements.
BPM or key detection seems wrong
Section titled “BPM or key detection seems wrong”Auto-detection works well for most electronic music but can struggle with complex time signatures, live recordings, or very slow/fast tempos. You can always override the detected values in the metadata form — just click the BPM or key field and type your own value.
My stem types aren’t detected correctly
Section titled “My stem types aren’t detected correctly”Stem type detection is based on filenames. If your files use unusual naming conventions, FreeMix may not recognize them. Use the dropdown to correct the stem type manually.
For best results, name files descriptively: kick.wav instead of audio_01.wav. FreeMix recognizes over 120 stem type names.
Playback Issues
Section titled “Playback Issues”Audio isn’t playing
Section titled “Audio isn’t playing”Make sure your browser’s audio isn’t muted (check the tab and system volume). Try refreshing the page. FreeMix uses a standard web audio player — if other audio works in your browser, it should work here.
Playback is choppy or cutting out
Section titled “Playback is choppy or cutting out”This usually means your connection is slow. FreeMix streams a preview rendition, not the full-resolution file. Try pausing for a moment to let it buffer, then resume playback.
Account Issues
Section titled “Account Issues”I can’t sign in
Section titled “I can’t sign in”Make sure you’re entering your full handle including the domain — for example, yourname.bsky.social, not just yourname. If you’re using a FreeMix account, your handle ends in .freemix.fm.
If the authorization screen doesn’t appear, try clearing your browser cookies for app.freemix.fm and trying again.
My profile shows my other account’s info instead of what I set
Section titled “My profile shows my other account’s info instead of what I set”If you signed in with an existing AT Protocol account (like Bluesky), FreeMix falls back to that account’s profile data for any field you haven’t customized on FreeMix. Go to Edit Profile and set your FreeMix-specific display name, bio, and avatar. Once set, your FreeMix values take priority.
License Issues
Section titled “License Issues”I chose the wrong license and can’t change it
Section titled “I chose the wrong license and can’t change it”Licenses are permanent once set. This is by design — people who downloaded or remixed your track did so under the original terms. If you need to change the license, delete the track and re-upload with the correct license. Existing remix attribution records are preserved.
Someone is violating my license
Section titled “Someone is violating my license”You have two options. For general license violations on FreeMix, use the feedback button in the app to notify the team — include the track URL and details about the violation. For copyright infringement specifically, you can file a formal DMCA takedown request by emailing dmca@freemix.fm. See our DMCA Policy for the full process.
General
Section titled “General”I found a bug or have a feature request
Section titled “I found a bug or have a feature request”Click the feedback button (bottom corner of the app). You can report bugs, request features, or send general feedback — it goes directly to the team.
